Gummies Part 3: Gummy Bears

Gummies Part 3: Gummy Bears

For the last part of our gummy series we present to you the classic Gummy bears. Gummy bears were first invented by the founder of Haribo, Hans Riegel, as “dancing bears”.

Fun fact: The name of the company, Haribo, was a combination of the owner’s first name, last name and home town. Haribo = Hans + Riegel + Bonn. I know right? Mind blown.

Riegel first produced gummies in the shape of dancing bears. They were called Tanzbären which translates to dancing bears. It was only in 1960 did Riegel’s sons start producing fatter, shorter more kid-friendly gummies known as Gummibärchen (“Little gummy bears”).

Gummy Bears have even been featured in the 80s Disney series, “The Adventures of the Gummi Bears”. Another way in which Gummy bears have been featured in pop culture is in the catchy song “I’m a Gummy Bear” (see video below) which is still known and sang by many people to this day much to the dismay of others.

That’s the last of our gummy series but not the last you’ll be seeing of these lovable gummies. Buy a “yummy, chummy, funny, lucky gummy bear” and mix it with some other sweets to finish up your pick ‘n’ mix selection. If you’re feeling more adventurous, we also have a giant Gummy Bear which you can buy from our Central and Wan Chai stores. Don’t forget to check back regularly for more posts. In the meantime, share this post with your friends and family, listen to the Gummy Bear song over and over again and comment on what other candies you want us to write about.
