Guide to Sherbet
Share
Many of the greatest British sweets of all time contain sherbet. Flying Saucers. Sherbet Lemons. Double Dip. These are just some to say the least. So this week we bring to you the history of an all-time great, Sherbet.
Sherbet is a sweet powder that fizzes when water is added. Sherbet powder was created near the end of the 19th century by English and German chemists mixing bicarbonate of soda, tartaric acid and sugar. However, in America, Sherbet is a frozen dessert similar to ice cream or sorbet.
Fun fact: The word Sherbet comes from the Arabic word “sharab” which was a sweetened fruit drink now known as “sharbat”.
Ah Sherbet. There is nothing quite like that familiar fizzing sensation when you take a bite into a Flying Saucer, suck on a Sherbet Lemon or lick a Sherbet Dip Dab. So come down to our stores in Central and Wan Chai and tantalize your taste-buds with our vast array Sherbet candies.
