Guide to Marshmallows

Marshmallows. They are so soft, fluffy, chewy. They’re like pillows for angels. What’s more, they also taste amazing and can be eaten in many different ways: as a lolly, in a s’more or just by themselves.

Did you know, Marsh Mallows are actually medicinal plants native to Europe and West Asia? In fact the original marshmallows were created by combining extract from the Marsh Mallow plant with eggs and sugar. These confectionaries were originally used as cough suppressants and to soothe sore throats.

The modern marshmallow sweet was invented in France in the mid-nineteenth century when the Marsh Mallow extract was replaced with gelatin. Unfortunately, the loss of the marsh mallow extract from the sweet resulted in the loss of the marshmallow’s healing properties.

Even with the new recipe, producing marshmallows was still a long and laborious process. In the 1950s, Alex Doumak shortened the process by forcing the marshmallow mixture through tubes and filling them with air.

Even though these cute candies don’t cure coughs anymore they sure can cure a case of a-bad-day syndrome. If you’re ever feeling down, cuddle up with your real pillows and stuff these mini ones in your mouth. It is a time tested method to brighten your day.

Another time tested method is to brighten you day is to share this post, comment below and read our previous posts. We’ll have a new post up in a few weeks so be sure to check back regularly for that!
